3-Alarm Fire Destroys Cape Cod Vacation Home

No one was home when flames broke out at an Allyn Lane house in Barnstable

A Cape Cod vacation home has been destroyed after a fire broke out Sunday afternoon.

Barnstable fire officials received a call just before 1:30 p.m. for a reported blaze at a home on Allyn Lane.

Upon arrival, the fire department found the single-family home was 75-percent involved, and a third-alarm was struck for manpower.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire, officials say.

The fire department believes the home is a vacation property and/or part-time residence.

The home is a total loss, according to fire officials.

While the fire was under control by about 3 p.m., crews were expected to be on scene throughout the night putting out hotspots.

The cause is under investigation by Barnstable fire and police departments, as well as the fire marshal's office.
