A teenager is in stable condition after driving over an embankment and landing on a Massachusetts beach Thursday, police say.

The crash happened after police tried to stop the car, which they say was speeding from the Causeway onto Nahant Road around 5 p.m. Police ended the pursuit due to safety concerns.

When police searched the area, an officer noticed a missing section of guardrail above Forty Steps Beach before seeing the car flipped over on the beach.

Police and fire crews removed the 19-year-old from the car. He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
