Car Crashes into Craft Beer Cellar

Comerrcial Street heading into Weymouth has been closed

There was glass, beer and a near kiss of death in a crash Friday morning in Braintree, Massachusetts.

A man driving an SUV slammed through the storefront of Craft Beer Cellar on Commercial Street around 10 a.m.

The store's owner, Kay Lorenz, said she was standing at the front of the store by the register getting ready to start work for the day.

"I've never been that terrified in my entire life," said Lorenz. "I heard this loud crash, saw the car come straight through the door and I jumped back."

She said the driver blew through the intersection near Quincy Avenue and Commercial Street at nearly 80 miles per hour.

Before crashing through the store, Lorenz said the driver hit a parked car, dragging it into the store with his.

Braintree Police said it's a miracle no one was in the parked car and the driver escaped without injury.

"His accelerator got stuck and a few lights back he just couldn't stop," Lorenz says the driver told her.

Despite the cars crashing through the storefront, most of the beer is untouched and still standing

"We got beer to sell, the holidays are coming," said Lorenz.

The store was boarded Friday afternoon and will remain closed through the weekend. Craft Beer Cellar will open early next week.

As of Friday afternoon police haven't identified the driver.
