Clerk Thwarts Attempted Convenience Store Robbery

Clerk, customer restrained suspect in parking lot until police arrived

Police in Manchester, New Hampshire, responded to an unarmed robbery at Crosstown Variety on Saturday. The suspect was arrested at the scene thanks to a store clerk's swift actions.

Upon arriving at 270 Armory Street, officers found the suspect, 32-year-old Samuel Robie, outside in the parking lot. He was restrained by a store clerk. The clerk told police that the suspect appeared suspicious and reached into the register to grab cash when it was opened.

The clerk battled to fend off the suspect. The suspect was able to break loose with the cash in hand before bolting for the door. With the help of a customer who oversaw the incident, the two caught Robie and restrained him until police arrived at the scene.

Robie, who police say is homeless, was arrested and charged with robbery. Robie refused bail and was sent to Valley Street Jail.
