Clinton: Michaud Is the Governor Maine Needs

Former President Bill Clinton painted incumbent GOP Gov. Paul LePage as a divisive figure in Maine

Former President Bill Clinton says Democrat Mike Michaud is what Maine needs in a governor to bring people together.

Before a Portland crowd of about 1,600 Tuesday, Clinton painted Republican Gov. Paul LePage as a divisive figure who has chosen conflict over cooperation.

Clinton's visit to Maine comes as the state's three-way race for governor kicks into high gear and ads begin to flood the airwaves with just two months until Election Day.

Michaud is in a tight three-way race with LePage and independent candidate Eliot Cutler.

The Democratic challenger said LePage is leading Maine down a "dangerous path." Michaud bashed LePage's categorization of municipal revenue sharing as welfare and he again pledged to introduce a bill to expand Medicaid on his first day in office.
