Commuter Rail Delays to Continue Monday

Just when the commuter rail had gotten back to full service after a problem-plagued winter because of the horrific weather, it suffered another hit.

Delays are expected Monday morning on four of the commuter rail lines.

Saturday’s lightning strike and fire at the Forest Hills stop resulted in a signal issue for Amtrak, causing delays for the lines heading inbound.

Outbound passengers on the Providence, Stoughton, Franklin and Needham lines can expect on-time departures, but arrivals into town could be delayed up to 30 minutes. Passengers on the Providence and Stoughton lines who get off at Ruggles will have to get off at Back Bay and take the Orange Line back to Ruggles.

Sunday, passengers were already feeling the effects. Steve Lombardi was late for his family's Easter celebration.

"It was on time, and then for whatever reason, we stopped, no explanation," said Lombardi. "A half hour later, I get here. So I feel like it's the same old situation."
