Dave Matthews Band Concert Expected to Cause Massive Traffic Problems

About 23,000 people are expected to descend on Hartford during the afternoon rush hour for an evening concert by the Dave Matthews Band at the XFinity Theater

Tailgaters have already arrived in Hartford for the 8 p.m. Dave Matthews Band concert and traffic is expected to be a mess for the evening commuter as tens of thousands of people head into the city.

Between 20,000 and 23,000 people are expected on Friday night at Xfinity Theater alone - which you might still call the Meadows if you’ve lived in Connecticut for a while.

Police warned on Thursday that crowds could arrive as early as 4 p.m. to tailgate for the 8 p.m. concert, creating a mess of the Friday evening commute, but people were already tailgating as of 3:30 a.m.

"Please be mindful and make plans," Deputy Chief Brian Foley, of the Hartford Police Department, said. "It's going to be a big concert. In the range of over 20,000 people are going to be there. Usually, typically, Dave Matthews is here for two or three shows. It's just one show this year, so we expect a full house and a lot of traffic."

In addition to the Dave Matthews Band concert, "Men Are From Mars - Women Are From Venus" is at the The Bushnell, "Kiss Me, Kate," is at Hartford Stage and "Mike Super" is at Xfinity Hall.

Expect heavy congestion and plan accordingly.
