Conn. Town Seeks Help as Canada Geese Become Unsanitary Nuisance

An eastern Connecticut town is exploring options to get rid of a gaggle of Canada geese who call a local park their summer home.

Officials in Preston want to remove the geese from Milton Green Memorial Park.

The Parks and Recreation department says the geese have become a health concern and youth soccer teams have had to cancel games due to the amount of goose droppings.

The Board of Selectmen is considering hiring a dog handler to use a border collie to scare off the geese. The town is also exploring a goose repellant called Flight Control, which the company's website says is not harmful to geese or other species and leaves no odor.

Hiring a dog handler would cost about $10,000 and the spray would cost up to $5,000.
