Boston Police Officer Back on Job After Controversial Video

The investigation into a controversial video, featuring a Boston Police officer and showing comments about black people that some are calling racist, is being questioned by minority law enforcement officers.

“I understand they are still investigating, but I feel as though they are stone walling,” said Denise Reed of the Massachusetts Association of Minority Law Enforcement Officers.

The video shows a Boston police officer, who NBC Boston is not identifying, and depicts him as the hero of a buddy cop parody, where black people are the villains.

“There is a culture within police departments where this is tolerated and it goes on,” Reed said.

NBC Boston has learned that the officer in the video has returned to patrol in Roxbury and the officer suspected of making the video has been placed on office duty.

Boston Police released the following statement in response to questions about possible discipline against the officers:

“The internal investigation is ongoing and progressing. Once the investigation is done we will inform the public of our findings. We do not comment on active internal investigations as doing so may compromise the integrity of the process.”

Minority officers and black community leaders were expected to meet on Tuesday to talk about the controversial video. The annual Boston Caribbean Parade is referenced specifically and organizers said they are outraged.

“This type of racist propaganda should not be tolerated by anyone,” said Michael Smith, an organizer of the Boston Carribean Carnival.
