Convicted Murderer Up for Parole Breaks Down in Court

Marvin Cathey says he remembers little about the day in 1999 that he raped and murdered 9-year-old Cassie Kucher and then killed her mother Deborah in their Leicester, Massachusetts, home- but he knows he did it.

"I'm just sorry, I'm very, very sorry for what I did," Cathey said.

At his parole hearing Tuesday, Cathey admitted he doesn't think he deserves to get out, but showed up to this hearing only to offer his apologies to his victims' family.

"I just hope one day, they can see how sorry I am by the way I've changed my life around," Cathey continued.

But family members said his apologies and seeing him face-to-face, in addition to the whole parole process, has only caused them to relive their pain.

"I felt like my heart was ripped out of my chest," said Sandra Taft. Deborah was her niece.

But it was something a board member said that caused him to break down- explaining that it was Kucher's son who found his mother and sister's bodies and that he later committed suicide.

"I can't do it. I can't," Cathey said. "I'm sorry, I can't do it."

Cathey returned to say he will not seek parole again.

Necn spoke to the Leicester police chief who said although Cathey says he doesn't want parole now, only time will tell.
