Convicted Rapist Asks for Parole

A man convicted of raping a woman in 1983 appeared in front of a parole board on Thursday.

A man convicted of rape is asking for parole after spending 33 years behind bars.

Bejamin LaGuer is currently serving life in prison for the 1983 rape of a neighbor, but he has long maintained that he is innocent. He has appeared in front of the parole board four other times.

Thursday, he spoke about his accomplishments while behind bars including earning a degree from Boston University and tutoring other inmates in civics and government; however, similar questions from past hearings did arise including LaGuer's reasons for not completing rehabilitative programs including a sex offender treatment program.

LaGuer told the board he had registered for the treatment program but would not sign a form admitting guilt which he say was part of the treatment.

Meanwhile, a Worcester County Assistant District attorney presented a different side to the well spoken and mild mannered LaGuer, saying he has a vengeful side and has a theory that there is some conspiracy against him.

Family members of the victim also appeared asking the board to once again deny his parole.

The board is expected to make a decision within the next month.
