Convicted ‘White Sock Robber' Charged With Rape

An ex-convict known as the "White Sock Robber" is accused of raping a woman in Stratford.

Authorities said Friday that they charged Christopher Walsh of Milford with first-degree sexual assault and unlawful restraint earlier in the week for a reported rape at the town's boat launch Nov. 22.

The Connecticut Post reports that Walsh earned his nickname in 2008 by robbing people in Stratford and Trumbull with a white sock on his right hand. He served a half dozen years in prison and is on probation.

A woman told police she met Walsh at a bar and he offered her a ride, but he took her to the boat launch and raped her.

Walsh is detained on $300,000 bail. His lawyer didn't immediately return a phone message Saturday.
