A Maine city councilor says he's going to apologize to Gov. Paul LePage for saying during a public forum that he wouldn't be bothered if the Republican went "to see his maker."
Paul Emery of Westbrook said Wednesday that his comments that also included a reference to assassination were inappropriate.
The Portland Press Herald reported that Emery originally denied making the comments during a forum in Scarborough but acknowledged making the remarks after being told there was a recording. The newspaper reported that he also grabbed the reporter's phone but later returned it and apologized.
On Wednesday, Emery said he was tired and emotional, and that he's sorry if he offended the residents of Westbrook. He said he's human, made a mistake and is "man enough to admit it."
