Court records say a Vermont mother charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of her weeks-old son was intoxicated when she smothered him as they slept.
According to records obtained by The Burlington Free Press, 27-year-old Rosemary Gile of Worcester had a blood alcohol level of 0.132 when police arrived early July 22 on a report of an unresponsive baby.
Gile is due to be arraigned on the felony charge Thursday in Superior Court in Burlington. If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison.
Court records say Gile admitted smoking marijuana that night but later denied drug use when questioned by a second police officer.
Her son, Saunder, was 27 days old. He died July 30.
