Man Killed in Crash on Route 4 in Torrington

A 37-year-old Torrington man was killed in a crash on Route 4 early Monday morning after hitting a telephone pole, a stone wall and a tree, according to police.

Police have identified the driver as Michael Chase and said he was the only person in the vehicle when he lost control on Route 4, also known as Goshen Road, near Weed Road, at 1:17 a.m.

There were no witnesses to the collision, so police are relying on physical evidence at the scene to determine what caused Chase to crash.

Lt. Linas Venclauskas, of Torrington Police, said investigators will examine the damage to the car, tire marks on the road, damage to the pole and more.

The crash happened not far from the UConn Torrington campus and the road was closed between Pothier Road and University Drive, but it has since reopened.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Sgt. D’Autorio of the Accident Investigation Team at 860-489-2000, at extension 322.
