Woman Dies in Fire, 2 Firefighters Injured While Battling Blaze in Boston's Dorchester Neighborhood

A woman died in a 2-alarm house fire in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood, which also injured two firefighters, according to the city's fire department.

Authorities say the victim was in her mid to late 60s and was found on the first floor of 83 Tonawanda St., where investigators say the fire started. She was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.

Both injured firefighters were treated and transported to local hospitals by Boston EMS. One reportedly sustained a cut to the neck and the other sustained a leg injury.

Boston Fire says they got the call about the fire at Tonawanda Street around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday.

The fire was in a two and a half story wood frame house, officials said. The heavy fire was knocked down, and crews are checking for the extension of the fire and overhauling, opening walls and ceilings.

The Boston fire chief estimates damage at $300,000. They say five residents are displaced from the two-family home.

This is Boston's second fatal fire of 2015.
