Avon Fire confirms it was a tier 2 hazmat situation

Emergency crews responding to a hazmat situation in Avon, Massachusetts, Thursday night, say an ammonia leak was caused by a broken valve, the town's fire department confirmed.

Avon Fire says it was a tier two hazmat situation; according to Mass.gov, a tier two hazmat situation is short term operation.

Police say crews responded to the warehouse building in the area of Murphy Street.

When officials arrived, they found a high concentration of ammonia inside the compressor room.
