11-Year-Old Boy Who Went Missing in Vermont's Winooski River Found Dead

An 11-year-old boy who went missing in Vermont's Winooski River on Tuesday has been found dead.

Police said crews recovered the body of Ali Muhina on Wednesday afternoon.

He had gone missing in the river between Burlington and Winooski, Vermont, near the hydroelectric dam, on Tuesday night. Police said four children were playing near the river when witnesses saw one of them fall into the water.

Emergency crews searched in and around the river Tuesday night but later called off the search because of rough conditions in the water.

Police believe Ali was a new American from Kenya. They said they are working with the refugee community in Winooski to learn more about him and learn how he fell into the river.

It's the second water-related safety incident in two days in the region. Seventeen-year-old Christian Kibabu, of Burlington, drowned in Lake Champlain near Oakledge Park on Monday.
