A swimmer who went missing Tuesday off the coast of Ipswich, Massachusetts, has been rescued.
The U.S. Coast Guard said a man and his son-in-law, both experienced swimmers familiar with the area, went off the coast where Crane Beach meets Steep Hill Beach around 5:30 p.m.
When family members noticed they had been gone too long, they went to the scene, found their bikes and called 911.
Police found the younger man in the water. He told them his father-in-law had gotten caught in a heavy fog and pulled out in a rip current.
Later in the evening, the man was found treading water. He was taken back to land and on board an ambulance.
The Coast Guard had been searching by air and boat, and Ipswich Police remained on the scene.
