DA: 13-Year-Old Suspect Threatened Student, Possessed Explosive Devices

A 13-year-old Massachusetts boy allegedly threatened another student and possessed explosive devices.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said a Wilmington Middle School student has been charged with three counts of possession of an explosive device, possession of a counterfeit note, and threatening to commit a crime.

Authorities say another Wilmington Middle School student notified school officials on Wednesday after receiving threatening social media messages from the suspect, and school officials in turn alerted Wilmington police, who started an investigation.

Investigators found an apparent homicide explosive along with other material used to make the device in the juvenile suspect's home, according to the district attorney's office.

Officers also searched Wilmington Middle School as a precaution, but found nothing.

The juvenile suspect, whose name has not been released, will be arraigned in Lowell District Court. It's not clear if the boy has an attorney.
