DA: Woman Charged After Falling Asleep on Infant

A Massachusetts woman was arraigned on multiple child endangerment charges Tuesday after allegedly falling asleep on top of an infant while possibly under the influence of drugs.

The Middlesex DA’s office says 33-year-old North Reading resident Christina Bianchi is facing charges of assault and battery on a child with injury, reckless endangerment of a child and resisting arrest

On Sept. 2 police responded to a home on Crestwood Drive around 4 a.m. for a report of a possible home invasion. A responding officer overheard crying sounds from inside the home.

The officer found Bianchi on top of a bed, not moving and possibly under the influence of drugs. The officer entered the bedroom and saw an infant’s hand coming out from under Bianchi. Bianchi was lifted off the infant, who was taken to an area hospital, treated and released.

As officers tried to arrest Bianchi, she became combative.

Bail for Bianchi was set at $1,000 and she was ordered to not consume any drugs or alcohol and to be subjected to random screenings.

The home invasion remains under investigation.
