DA to Distribute Forfeited Money to Mass. Nonprofits

Several nonprofits in the Springfield, Massachusetts area will benefit from forfeited money collected by the Hampden District Attorney.

State law allows prosecutors to distribute funds that were turned over as a result of criminal proceedings such as proceeds from illegal drug sales to programs that work toward creating safer communities.

On Monday, Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni will hold a ceremony at a local school to award $65,000 in forfeiture grants to several organizations, among them the Boys and Girls Club Family Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the YMCA Summer Camp at Camp Weber.

Gulluni says programs such as these help lead children toward a brighter future.
