Dalai Lama Makes Surprise Appearance at Event in Boston

The Dalai Lama made a surprise appearance this weekend in Boston.

According to the Boston Globe, about 400 people greeted the Tibetan spiritual leader along the sidewalks of Bedford and Chauncy streets shortly after his arrival Saturday afternoon at the Hyatt Regency, where he is staying for the two-day visit.

The Dalai Lama was in the area for a Sunday morning event at the Sheraton Boston Hotel for the Tibetan Association of Boston. An estimated 2,000 people were expected to attend.

The last time the Dalai Lama was in Boston was in the fall of 2014 when he visited the TD Garden, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Citi Performing Arts Wang Theatre, and the Boston Marriott Copley Place.

Earlier this month, the Dalai Lama visited the University of California in San Diego where some of the students protested his visit.
