Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, Watches

Berkshire County could be particularly hard hit

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings are in effect for parts of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine and Connecticut through 8:45 p.m. at the latest on Wednesday.

Winds of 60 mph and hail should be expected, with potential damage to roofs, siding and trees. There could even be a brief spinup in Berkshire County, although that remains unlikely. The warning there expires at 6:15 p.m.

As of 6:45 p.m., the Severe Thunderstorm Warning covers Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire and Worcester counties in Massachusetts; Caroll, Coos, Grafton, Hillsborough, Merrimack and Sullivan counties in New Hampshire; Aroostook, Cumberland, Franklin, Oxford, Somerset, Penobscot and Piscataquis counties in Maine; and Hartford and Litchfield counties in Connecticut. Flash Flood Warnings have also been issued for Grafton and Sullivan counties until 8:30 p.m.

Earlier Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for parts of Vermont have now expired.

Severe Thunderstorm Watches are also in effect for parts of Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Maine. The Severe Thunderstorm Watches remain in effect as late as 10 p.m. in some areas.

Meanwhile, there have been a numerous reports of downed trees and wires, primarily in western Massachusetts.

To protect yourself, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Officials say torrential rainfall is happening with this storm, which could lead to flash flooding; do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
