Death of 80-Year-Old Man Considered Suspicious

Police have deemed the death of an 80-year-old Rhode Island man as suspicious.

Investigators were seen Wednesday at the Cumberland home of Stanley Stowik Sr. Stowik died unexpectedly at his home Friday. Police have not said how he died.

Cumberland Police Chief John Desmarais says they are treating his death as a homicide. Investigators have been analyzing evidence at the home since receiving a tip on Saturday.

Desmarais says Stowik's death was a targeted incident. He says they do have suspects, and the case could be elevated to murder soon.

Stowik's obituary states he was a Navy veteran who served in the Korean War and was a father of six.
