Deputy Suspended Amid Abuse Allegations

Corey Davis of Johnson, Vt., is focus of the investigation

A Lamoille County deputy sheriff has been suspended from his job without pay while the authorities investigate allegations of domestic abuse.

Officials say 26-year-old Corey Davis, of Johnson, Vermont, is the focus of the investigation.

Lamoille County Sheriff Roger Marcoux says his office takes the situation seriously. Davis was suspended as soon as Marcoux learned of the allegations.

He says Davis's police gear was seized.

The Burlington Free Press reports Marcoux called in state police to do an independent investigation.

The suspension came after a 22-year-old Lamoille County woman obtained a relief from abuse order against Davis. State Police Lt. James Whitcomb says troopers began investigating the case on Sunday.

Davis's lawyer Ron Perelman said his client plans to fight the allegations and they are preparing for a hearing.
