A Massachusetts prosecutor wants to bring convicted Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev back to Massachusetts to face state charges in the death of MIT police officer Sean Collier.
According to the Boston Globe, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan is beginning the process of asking the federal government to return Tsarnaev. Ryan suggests convicting Tsarnaev of state charges could act as an insurance policy in case the appeal of his federal conviction is successful.
Tsarnaev was sentenced to death for his role in the bombings and a shootout with police that resulted in Collier's death. Three people were killed and over 260 were wounded when Tsarnaev and his brother Tamerlan planted two pressure cooker bombs near the Boston Marathon finish line on April 15, 2013. Tamerlan was also killed in the shootout.
