Dog Shot, Killed by Police Officer

Troopers told the people at the residence to call the dog off but they did not despite multiple orders

Vermont State Police say an officer shot and killed a dog in Royalton after it attacked him and the owners did not call it off.

Police were responding to a home on Carney Road Wednesday night around 10 for a report that a man wanted for a stabbing in New Hampshire may have been at the residence.

Upon arrival an officer was attacked by a mastiff. Troopers told the people at the residence to call the dog off but they did not despite multiple orders.

One shot was fired at the dog. Police then immediately administered first aid to the dog, which ultimately died from its injuries at a local vet.

Police arrested Nelson Duncan IV, who was wanted on warrant. He is being held on $2,500 bail.
