Dog Survives Machete Attack in Taunton

A dog is recovering after surviving what police say was a brutal attack by a man with a machete.

Police responded to Church Street in Taunton, Massachusetts, around 10:30 p.m. after receiving multiple calls of a man attacking a dog. When police arrived, they found bystanders tending to a dog who lay bleeding on the ground. According to police, the dog had been stabbed in the neck and spine.

The dog was treated at a nearby animal hospital and was taken into the custody of animal control.

Police say a female bystander was also stabbed while trying to intervene, and walked to a nearby emergency room for treatment. According to police, the female would not cooperate with officers who wanted to speak to her about the incident.

Police have not released the name of the suspected attacker or woman involved, but say the pair knew each other prior to the incident.
