Donors Help Mini-Horse Shot in Leg in Acushnet, Massachusetts

A miniature horse that was shot in Massachusetts is getting medical treatment with the help of an online fundraising campaign.

Donors have given more than $11,000 to help the 2-year-old horse named Max, who was shot in the leg near his owner's Acushnet home on Dec. 1. Police have been looking for clues about who shot Max and why.

The online donations have helped send the horse to a clinic in New Hampshire to undergo surgery. His owner has said Max would need a prosthetic leg or else be euthanized.

Among those who donated was a 5-year-old boy who gave his savings in honor of his pet pony named Cowboy that died recently.

After Max recovers, his owners hope to make him a therapy horse for hospitals and schools.
