Dozens of people were arrested Tuesday morning during drug raids in Brockton, Massachusetts, police confirm.

Brockton Police say a gun and over 100 grams of cocaine were seized when that department and other local, state and federal agencies executed 40 arrest warrants and three search warrants.

Police named 27 people who were arrested. They were allegedly wanted for "various narcotic and violent offenses." Twenty-two of them had outstanding arrest warrants.

More than 100 law enforcement officials were involved in the response. The Massachusetts State Police Special Tactical Operations Team searched 369 Crescent St. just before 5 a.m.

About 20 minutes later, the Brockton Police Special Reaction Team searched 145 North Warren Ave. and seized the cocaine, the gun and ammunition. Authorities were looking for 38-year-old Douglas Arthur Norris, who was found around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Prospect Street and Augusta Avenue. He was arrested on drug trafficking and firearm charges.

Around 5:40 a.m., Brockton Police executed another search warrant at 15 Abbot Place.

The suspects were booked at the Brockton Police Department and were taken to Brockton District Court for arraignment.

Brockton Mayor Bill Carpenter says the operation targeted drug dealers and violent offenders. With the officials start of summer around the corner and crime traditionally expected to rise during the hotter months, Carpenter says he's trying to send a message.

"We aggressively go after anyone who commits a violent crime or distributes drugs," Carpenter said.
