Driver Arrested After Leading Police on Pursuit Through 3 Communities

William Marrero-Castejohn was scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday

Police have arrested a Providence man who led officers on an early morning pursuit through three communities before he struck an officer and a cruiser and crashed into a rock wall.

William Marrero-Castejon is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on charges including assault with a dangerous weapon and driving under the influence.

The pursuit started in Warwick at about 12:40 a.m. when police tried to stop the driver of a pickup truck for suspected drunk driving. The pursuit went through Cranston and Providence before ending in Warwick when the truck struck the wall.

At one point, police thought they had the driver cornered on a dead-end street, but he allegedly put the truck in reverse and struck the officer and cruiser before driving off. The officer suffered minor injuries.
