Driver Who Fled Police in Merrimac, Mass. Dies

A man has died from his injuries after fleeing police in Haverhill, Massachusetts and crashing his car on Saturday evening.

The man, who has not yet been identified, was stopped around 4:05 p.m. near 100 West Main Street in Merrimac, Mass. for what police said was driving with an expired registration. He fled the scene when an officer approached his car and a chase onto Route 110 into Haverhill ensued.

Merrimac police said that the officer only caught up with the suspect's car when he rounded a corner on Atwood Road and saw that the suspect had crashed.

"This is obviously an unfortunate outcome," said Merrimac Police Chief Eric M. Shears said. "We are actively investigating and hope to learn more about the circumstances surrounding this incident as soon as possible."
