Driver Who Struck Man at Bus Stop Sentenced

Benjamin Shealey was sentenced Tuesday in Barnstable Superior Court

A Massachusetts driver who was fleeing from police when he struck and killed a man waiting at a bus stop before causing a crash that injured twin 9-year-old girls and their parents has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.

Benjamin Shealey was sentenced Tuesday in Barnstable Superior Court after pleading guilty to charges including manslaughter by motor vehicle and driving recklessly causing serious injury in connection with the July 2013 chase through Harwich and Chatham.

The Cape Cod Times reports that Shealey was also sentenced to 10 years' probation.

Prosecutors say Shealey was unlicensed, uninsured and driving an unregistered vehicle when he fled from police. He lost control and struck and killed 62-year-old Albert Della Malva, who was waiting for a bus.

Shealey expressed remorse and apologized.
