Authorities in New London, New Hampshire, are investigating the cause of an early morning fire that caused police to evacuate an elderly woman from her home.

Around 12:23 a.m. Sunday morning, the New London Fire Department responded to a one-alarm structure fire at Jake's Market in the George's Mills Village of Sunapee.

First responders on scene determined the severity of the fire, causing Sunapee and New London Police officers to help rescue an elderly woman from a neighboring residence as smoke filled her home. In addition, all surrounding roads were closed for a period of time.

Firefighters said Sunday afternoon that they were still on scene and expected to be putting out hot spots for most of the day. The New Hampshire State Fire Marshall's Office is investigating.
