Elizabeth Warren Sharpens Donald Trump Criticism, Praises Bernie Sanders

As the 2016 presidential race progresses, more lawmakers are sharing their thoughts on Republican front-runner Donald Trump.

Thursday, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts weighed in on the Democratic race and discussed her recent social media tirade against Trump.

"I'm going after Donald Trump because I think he poses a real threat to this country," she said.

In a series of recent tweets, which the senator says she wrote herself, she called Trump a loser.

"Count all his failed businesses. See how he cheated people w/ scams like Trump U.," she tweeted. "His insecurities are on parade: petty bullying, attacks on women, cheap racism, flagrant narcissism."

Warren doubled down Thursday.

"Donald Trump keeps saying he's a giant business winner. He is not, and it's time that the American people call him on it," she said.

Trump has responded by attacking Warren's long-ago claim that she was part Native American. When asked about Warren's tweets in a New York Times interview, he said, "She's got about as much Indian blood as I have. Her whole life was based on a fraud. She got into Harvard and all that because she said she was a minority."

"Donald Trump offers no solutions," Warren said. "Donald Trump's notion of a solution is to call women fat pigs."

Necn reached out to Trump's campaign Thursday for further comment on Warren, but the team said it would pass on this one.

On the Democratic side, meanwhile, Warren stopped short of making an endorsement, but had kind words for her fellow New England senator, Bernie Sanders.

"I'm still cheering Bernie on," she said. "He's out there, he fights from the heart. This is who Bernie is, and he has put the right issues on the table."

Addressing Hillary Clinton, Warren explained that she wanted her party's front-runner to avoid certain pitfalls regarding big business.

"This is about the future, making it clear how you plan to reign in Wall Street and that you are not going to surround yourself with people who are beholden to the financial services industry," she said.
