Ex-Marine Charged With Murdering Woman Sentenced on Separate Charges

A former Marine reservist recently indicted in the strangulation death of a 24-year-old woman in Providence, Rhode Island, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison on separate charges.

A federal judge on Thursday sentenced 28-year-old Daniel Tejeda for violating several terms of his conditional release from a three-year prison sentence he received in 2008 for robbing a bank and stealing a fellow Marine's identity.

Court records show Tejeda admitted committing other crimes and failing to complete 200 hours of community service in violation of the release terms.

A state grand jury in Providence this month indicted Tejeda on a first-degree murder charge in the March 31 killing of Ashley Masi, a mother of 6-year-old twins and a 7-month-old infant. Police say Tejeda responded to Masi's advertisement for escort services on the website backpage.com.

He awaits arraignment on the murder charge.
