Ex-State Rep Candidate Accused of Assaulting Police Officer

A former Vermont state representative candidate is facing charges after police allege he pushed an officer while he was detaining another person.

The Caledonian Record reports 29-year-old Philip Aldridge pleaded not guilty in Caledonia Superior Court Tuesday to charges of misdemeanor disorderly conduct and felony impeding a police officer. He was released on conditions.

A police affidavit says police responded to a report of a male and female yelling outside a St. Johnsbury apartment building last week. Police say officers tried to put the woman in handcuffs to control the situation and then Aldridge allegedly tried to interfere.

Police say they then handcuffed Aldridge and took him to the police department for processing.

The former Independent candidate lost his bid for a Caledonia-3 House seat in the November election.
