The former clerk and treasurer of the Vermont town of Plymouth has been charged with stealing about $20,000 from the town

The former clerk and treasurer of the Vermont town of Plymouth has been charged with stealing about $20,000 from the town.

The current town clerk, Sandie Small, tells the Rutland Herald that 57-year-old Barbara Stone resigned Jan. 3.

Small said some discrepancies turned up in several town accounts that led to an investigation by state police, who allege Stone wrote checks to herself.

The 57-year-old Stone, who now lives in Newport, New Hampshire, was town clerk and treasurer for four years. It wasn't immediately known if she had a lawyer.
