Fallen State Trooper Given Final Salute

The body of Kyle Young left Burlington Saturday heading for his hometown of Watertown, N.Y.

Vermont police have given a final salute to a 28-year-old state trooper who collapsed at a firing range in Jericho and later died.

Young, of Monkton, suffered a medical event causing him to collapse during training at the Ethan Allen Firing Range on Sept. 17. He was pronounced dead at the University of Vermont Medical Center.

Police say a funeral Mass is tentatively planned for Wednesday with visiting hours on Tuesday.

Gov. Peter Shumlin ordered the state flag to fly at half-staff for three days starting on the day of the funeral.

An autopsy was conducted on Friday. No results were released.
