Family Escapes Unharmed From Boat Fire in Derry, NH

The family of five, including three children, managed to climb onto a raft the boat was towing

No one was injured when a boat caught fire on Beaver Lake in Derry, New Hampshire, Wednesday night.

According to James Richardson, Battalion Chief for the Derry Fire Department, the fire broke out in the boat's engine shortly after 7 p.m. The family, who lives a few miles away from the lake, was on the water celebrating a birthday. A man, woman, and three teenage boys were on board. 

They managed to climb onto a raft the boat was towing and call for the help of other boaters in the area using the boat's horn.

Witnesses tell necn they heard the horn and that one man who lives on the lake raced to the boat on his boat. By then, the three boys, who were wearing life jackets, were in the water. Soon, the woman and boys were on the neighbor's boat as the mom called 911.
