Fan Leaves After Being Hit in Face by Foul Ball at Fenway Park

A fan at Fenway Park was struck in the head by a foul ball in the top of the fifth inning on Friday night.

Stephanie Wapenski was attended to initially by fellow fans, one man stripping off his shirt to help stop her bleeding. After emergency responders arrived, she walked up to the aisle from her seat with an ice pack and towel pressed to her head.

She was put in a wheelchair before being taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where she was treated and released.

The foul ball was a line drive off the bat of New York’s Didi Gregorius.

The woman was sitting on the right side of the visitor’s dugout. On June 5, 44-year-old Tonya Carpenter of Paxton was struck in the face by a piece of broken bat while sitting behind the plate during a game against Oakland. She was hospitalized for eight days with what were initially described as life-threatening injuries.
