Fatal Police-Involved Shooting Under Investigation

Police in Brockton, Massachusetts, are investigating a fatal, police-involved shooting.

Police in Brockton, Massachusetts, fatally shot a suspect after he pointed a BB gun at officers that appeared to be an authentic weapon.

Around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, a woman reported to Brockton Police that 45-year-old Douglas Buckley threatened to burn down a home at 50 Thayer Street. The woman added that there were other people in the home and that Buckley had been drinking and made other threats.

When police arrived on scene, Buckley was outside the home, holding a police scanner and an apparent rifle. Buckley dropped the rifle and pointed a concealed handgun at officers. Police discharged their weapons, shooting Buckley in his lower abdomen.

Buckley, a father of three, was transported to Signature Health Care where he was pronounced dead a 2:05 a.m.

Investigation reveals that the rifle and handgun that Buckley allegedly pointed at officers were BB guns that closely resembled authentic guns.

Stephanie Stack tells necn that she is a cousin of the victim. She says that Buckley's wife told police that the guns were not real.

"I guess she was yelling at the top her lungs that they were BB guns, that they were broken and they still fired on him," Stack said. "I just think it was wrong. If they knew that it was fake and they told them that, then they shouldn't have taken the actions that they took."

Police and the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office are investigating.
