A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to up to 12 years behind bars in connection with the death of his infant daughter, who was fed opioid-laced baby formula.
Ryan Barry, of Quincy, was sentenced Wednesday in Plymouth Superior Court after pleading guilty to manslaughter just before his trial was scheduled to start.
Barry's daughter, 5-month-old Mya, was found unresponsive in their Marshfield apartment on Sept. 23, 2011. Rescuers say the baby was cold to the touch and wasn't breathing.
Prosecutors say police found heroin and hypodermic needles in the bedroom the 33-year-old Barry shared with the baby's mother and two other infant children. Officers also found a baby's bottle containing opioids.
The medical examiner said that Mya died of opioid poisoning.
The baby's mother is scheduled to go on trial Thursday.
