Father, Son Indicted in Equipment Scam

A New Hampshire father and son accused of selling machinery at a discount and not delivering it have been indicted.

Twenty-three-year-old Joseph Bavis Jr. of Bridgewater and his father, 47-year-old Joseph Bavis Sr. of Belmont, were arrested in August.

The Citizen reports they allegedly told investigators they ran a scam in which they offered to sell a skid-steer loader at a low price, claiming financial woes. The machine has lift arms that can be connected to other tools or attachments including a bucket, pallet forks, plow blade, and others.

Police say the men are accused of meeting their targets in a downtown parking garage to take cash in exchange for a fraudulent bill of sale bearing a false vehicle identification number. They said they would arrange for delivery.
