Feds Charge 19 as Part of New Haven Heroin Bust

A federal grand jury has returned indictments charging 19 people with being involved in a heroin distribution ring in New Haven.

The U.S. attorney's office says 18 people were arrested on Wednesday, and another was being sought.

Authorities say the charges are the result of a joint city, state and federal investigation in heroin trafficking in the Fair Haven neighborhood, which was dubbed "Operation Northern Corridor."

Authorities say investigators used wiretaps, surveillance and controlled heroin purchases from wholesale and street-level distributors to identify the suspects.

Connecticut's U.S. Attorney, Deirdre Daly, says the ring distributed "significant" amounts of heroin in the city.

About 500 grams of the drug, five vehicles, three handguns and $40,000 in cash were seized during the investigation.
