Coast Guard Monitoring Repairs of Ferry That Stranded Carrying 78 People

The Coast Guard is monitoring repairs being made to a ferry that lost power Saturday night while en route to Woods Hole from Martha's Vineyard.

The Motor Vessel Martha's Vineyard became disabled with 78 people and 10 crewmembes on board while it was en route to Woods Hole from Martha's Vineyard. The captain reported the incident to the Coast Guard around 9 p.m.

The Coast Guard Cutter Hammerhead and a boat crew from Coast Guard Station Woods Hole responded and waited on scene while the ferry awaited commercial tow.

The Coast Guard said the disabled boat was anchored outside Vineyard Haven between the East and West Chop.

The MV Martha's Vineyard was towed by three tugs into the Vineyard Haven ferry terminal at 1:30 a.m. where all passengers and crewmembers were safely offloaded.

No injuries were reported, and authorities are investigating the cause of the power loss.
