Final Preparations Underway for Boston Marathon Runners

Crews are putting the finishing touches on the course while eager runners get ready for the race

It's the day before Marathon Monday and first-time runners like Kylie Kastes are taking it all in. "I'm just excited for the experience of it," she said. "This is a big deal. This is a goal I've had forever."

Every runner has a story, no matter if it's their first marathon or they have completed one before.

"This year is going to be all about fun and enjoying the crowds a little more than I did last year," said marathon runner Mark Ford.

Thirty thousand people are expected to take part. For runners and volunteers alike, there is nothing quite like this event.

"It's already the most amazing marathon I've been at," said marathon runner John Schiaroli. "The experience so far has been incredible."

Volunteer Virginia Porter shared similar feelings. "Just full of a lot of positive energy, especially after last year it just has a lot of positive energy," she said.

Past champions were honored Sunday at the annual Champions Breakfast. Among them was Lisa Rainsberger, the last American woman to win the Boston Marathon - 30 years ago. "I think this year is going to present a great opportunity for the American women to emerge," the 1985 champion said.

Whether it's about winning or completing a personal best, for the runners Sunday is all about preparation and relaxing before the big day.

"It's just a coming together of some of the best runners in the world and you get to be a part of it and see what it's like - it's fun," said marathon runner Lauren Fisher.
