Fire Breaks Out at 2-Story Wood Frame Apartment

Firefighters responded to the blaze at a second-floor apartment on Town Farm Road in Hallowell around 8 p.m. Thursday

No injuries were reported after a fire broke out at a two-story wood frame apartment building just outside Maine's capital city.

The Kennebec Journal reports firefighters responded to the blaze at a second-floor apartment on Town Farm Road in Hallowell around 8 p.m. Thursday.

No one was home at the time the fire began, but Fire Chief Michael Grant says the occupant arrived to find the blaze in progress.

Grant says a fellow tenant first noticed the smoke, called 911 to report the fire and left the building.

The flames were contained to the apartment and the fire was extinguished in about an hour. Crews from Augusta, Farmingdale and Manchester assisted.

No cause has been determined, but Grant says he believes it was electrical in nature.
