Contractor Critically Injured in House Explosion

Officials say the contractor was installing a new propane-fueled furnace when the explosion happened

Authorities say a contractor was critically injured after a furnace he was installing at a Massachusetts home exploded.

Emergency responders arrived at the New Braintree home just after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials say the contractor was installing a new propane-fueled furnace when the explosion happened. Investigators believe it was caused by leaking propane that was ignited by the hot water heater pilot light.

Authorities say the contractor was seriously injured and airlifted to a Boston hospital. His identity has not been released.

No one else was inside the home at the time of the explosion and no other injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation.
